Blake/Cory Part 3 - A Year Without Rain

Blake ran as fast as he could. He ran past a few more trailer and as he got closer he noticed the person he was running towards was not him. It was Cory and he was on the phone with someone. Blake came to a halt as Cory turned to see who was running towards him.

“I got to go I’ll call you tomorrow.” Cory said before hanging up and putting his phone in his pocket.

Cory stared at Blake and Blake stared at Cory. Blake turned a little red as his mind tried to come up with a good reason to explain why he was running towards Cory like his life depended on it.

“Trying to get me back aren’t you?” Cory said with a half smirk on his face.

“Get you back?” Blake asked.

Blake did want to get someone back but it was definitely not Cory.

“Yeah, you know, for throwing a slushie in your face. It happened this morning, you were there, and I was there and so was a big cup filled with cherry slushie. Remember?” Cory asked with a hint of confusion in his face.

Blake’s mind stopped trying to come up with a reason and just accepted Cory’s reason.

“You got me!” Blake said as he raised his hands up.

“No one has ever gotten me back for anything but that shouldn’t stop you from trying.” Cory said.

Blake smiled and looked up at the sky. Cory took a quick glance up and then looked back at Blake suspicious that Blake was still trying to get him back.

“I have always loved looking at the stars at night.” Blake said.

Cory looked at Blake, unsure of Blake’s motives for telling him this.

“Me too.” Cory agreed.

“Looking at the stars just makes you realize how small we really are.” Blake added.

Blake was not sure why he was talking about stars at a time like this but it just felt right.

“Yeah, I know what you mean.” Cory said as he looked up at the stars too.

Blake and Cory just stood there looking up at the stars in the middle of a parking lot.

“After a day of looking down at people and of being the tallest person in a room, it’s nice to come out here and look at the stars because it reminds me that there are things in this world that are hundreds of times bigger than me.” Cory said.

Blake looked at Cory.

“Yeah.” Blake agreed.

Cory looked at Blake and smiled.

“I’m really glad you’re here.” Cory said.

These five words caught Blake off guard.

“Why?” Blake asked.

“It’s nice not being the only tall person in the room.” Cory said very honestly.

Blake understood exactly what Cory meant. When your tall people look up to you, literally they have to look up to look at you.  Cory is a little bit taller than Blake but not by much.

“Maybe we should start a club.” Blake said with a smile on his face.

“Yeah, only people who are six-feet tall can join.” Cory added.

They both laughed.

“You know this is the first time I’ve seen you laugh since you got here.” Cory said.

Blake was caught off guard again. Was this true? He though. It was true Blake had not laughed in a long time.

“I was beginning to think you didn’t know how” Cory added.

“I just haven’t been in a laughing-type mood.” Blake said.

“Yeah, I noticed. So what’s wrong?” Cory asked.

“It’s a long story.” Blake answered.

“Come on, you can tell me. Rule number 3 in our tall people only club is we talk about things that make us feel bad. Cory said with a smirk.

Blake laughed again.

“Seriously if you wanna talk I’m a good listener.” Cory said as he sat down on the ground.

Blake looked at him and sat down too.

“I fell in love with my best friend.” Blake whispered loud enough for Cory to hear but soft enough so that the wind would not.

“Oh!” Was all Cory could say.

“Things got serious between us and well we don’t talk anymore.” Blake said in the same whispered voice.

“That sucks dude.” Cory whispered back.

“Yeah it does and no matter what I do I can’t stop thinking about it. I’m trying to figure out what went wrong. Everything was fine and then one day it was all over.” Blake said.  

“Maybe it just wasn’t meant to be.” Cory said.

“Maybe…” Blake whispered.

Blake and Cory were so deep in their conversation that they didn’t notice the angry clouds hovering over them. Lighting flashed and a few seconds later a loud roar made its way to Blake and Cory. Before they even had time to process what was going on millions of tears came down upon them.

This was the first time it’s rained since he left. Blake thought to himself.

Blake and Cory got up and ran towards their trailer. The wind picked up as they got closer and the rain continued falling down on them. Blake and Cory smiled as they looked at each other running away from water. Once they got to where their trailers were they split up and each went into their own trailer waving goodbye as they opened their trailer door.

Once Blake was inside he noticed that it was raining inside his trailer too. Drops of water made their way into his trailer and onto his bed, couch and even on his suitcase that had his clothes. Blake grabbed a trash can and tried to catch some of the water that was falling on his bed but it was no use, as the rain got more powerful more and more water made its way in. Blake grabbed his suitcase and left the trailer.

He walked over to Cory’s trailer and knocked on the door. Cory opened the door wearing only a towel.

“What wrong?” Cory asked.

“It’s raining in my trailer.” Blake said as he continued getting hit by rain water.

“Really? Come in.” Cory moved back to let Blake in.

Blake stepped into the trailer now dripping wet with his suitcase in one hand. Blake walked passed Cory with his suitcase in hand but as he did so the Velcro on the side of the suitcase accidently caught Cory’s towel and yanked it off. Cory was now standing there completely naked. Blake looked at Cory and Cory looked at Blake. Then they heard the roof of Blake’s trailer come down on itself.
